Portal Personality Core Purse

For this year's Otakon festivities, I cosplayed as Chell from Portal. Since the costume wasn't that difficult, I wanted to do something else to challenge myself. (I did actually learn how to custom make corsets, but that's anther story altogether....) Anyway, I was working on a portal gun, but Life prevented me from having the time to finish it, so I whipped up this little guy about 48 hours before the convention started.

Those of you who've played Portal probably recognize what/who they are. For those of you who haven't, they're small robotic spheres that have unique (and hilarious) dialogues. You can differentiate them by their color- blue is Wheatley, yellow is Space, purple is Morality, red is Rage, and green is Rick, aka Adventure core.

Structure-wise, the purse is about 10 inches high with pockets and a front slot for interchangeable eye colors. The inside is amazingly roomy and incredibly light. Even better, the whole thing should be machine washable (although I've yet to test that theory out). To the left, you can also see the plush GlaDOS potato I made. The whole purse took about 10 hours to make, from design to finishing touches.

Although I'm pleased with how he came out, there are a fair number of errors. I plan to spend some time figuring out a better way to secure things and find a better, less shiny fabric. I also want to use a zipper for the next model- the velcro I used got super fuzzy since I was opening the purse so often. To make the purse even more accurate, I want to spend more time on the eyes, too, so that they're closer to how they look in the game. I plan to make at least one more so that I can put it in the auction next year at Otakon. If someone is interested in purchasing one before that, though, just send me a note.
